Michael has won numerous awards since he established his practice as a designer silversmith.
In 2002 Michael was one of five recipients of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland's Major Individual Awards Scheme. The scheme, designed to create the circumstances in which established artists can develop individually with a view to attempting extended or ambitious work, enabled him to develop his research into deep drawing techniques.
Michael has also been a regular recipient of awards under the Arts Council of Northern Ireland's Support for Individual Artist Programme, receiving support in 2005, 2008, 2011, 2013 and 2018.
In 2013 Michael was also awarded a Travel Award from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland to attend the opening of exhibition “Hopeaa & Emalia”, Hoyry Galleria, Korpilahti, Finland which he was exhibiting in.
In 2000 he was also awarded a Visual and Creative Arts Award from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
