Statement of Artist/Designer/Craftsman Philosophy
Silverware to me has to be aesthetically pleasing, with a sculptural visual strength. My designs are founded on a balance of line, form and proportion which harmonize with the detail in the tactile finished pieces.
Background
Since completing my art and design education, I have run my own workshop working mainly to commission and recently designing and making work for exhibitions.
I lectured in silversmithing and jewellery at the Ulster Polytechnic/University of Ulster since 1967. Since being granted early retirement from the University in 1996 - where I had been Head of the School of Fine and Applied Arts from 1990 - I have participated in several exhibitions.
Throughout my career I have been involved in numerous professional activities promoting crafts throughout the island of Ireland.
