Exhibitions and Collections
Since completing my art and design education, I have run my own workshop working mainly to commission and recently designing and making work for exhibitions.
I lectured in silversmithing and jewellery at the Ulster Polytechnic/University of Ulster since 1967. Since being granted early retirement from the University in 1996 - where I had been Head of the School of Fine and Applied Arts from 1990 - I have participated in numerous exhibitions.
I was invited to produce work for two exhibitions at the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, Goldsmiths' Hall, in London.
Professor Benton Rabinovitch, Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington, Seattle, invited me to design and make a silver cake slice/lifter, having seen my work in the catalogue from the first exhibition at Goldsmiths' Hall. This design is reproduced in his book 'Contemporary Silver: Commissioning, Designing, Collecting'. The book illustrates the work of 34 British Silversmiths and 29 American Silversmiths.
Notable exhibitions have included:
Silver Connections
Silver Connections celebrates the work of acclaimed Irish silversmiths and applied artists Michael McCrory, Deirdre McCrory and their daughter Cara Murphy. What is unique about this work is not only the fact that it was created by one family but the cutting edge design and mastery of materials it displays.
Cutlery
In 1999 I designed and made seven silver serving utensils for an exhibition held at Goldsmiths' Hall, London.
Silver and Tea - A Perfect Blend
In 1998 I made two silver tea sets for an exhibition at Goldsmiths' Hall in London.
Permanent Collections
In 2000 Lisburn Museum purchased one of the tea sets for their collection. My jewellery is also included in the Arts Council of Northern Ireland's Permanent Collection which is housed in the Ulster Museum.
