Commissions
Since 1967 I have completed numerous silversmithing and jewellery commissions. These have included domestic ware, badges of office, trophies and precious jewellery to larger pieces.
I am interested in restoring early silverware and have been commissioned to complete a number of restorations including a chalice (1689) and a mace (1786). I am happy to quote for any similar type of work.
Commissioning work is a straightforward process. Please don't hesitate to contact me for further details including a quotation.
Notable commissions include:
Silver Cake Slice/Lifter (1998)
Professor Benton Rabinovitch, Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington, Seattle, recently commissioned me to design and make a silver cake slice/lifter, having seen my work in the catalogue from the first exhibition at Goldsmiths' Hall.
This design is reproduced in his book 'Contemporary Silver: Commissioning, Designing, Collecting'. The book illustrates the work of 34 British Silversmiths and 29 American Silversmiths.
Presidential Shield of Mary Robinson (1997)
In 1997 I was commissioned with my wife Deirdre McCrory to create the Presidential Heraldic Shield of Mary Robinson (Seventh President of Ireland) for Dublin Castle.
The shield was commissioned to commemorate Mary Robinson's Presidential term of office and hangs in Dublin Castle with shields for all of Ireland's past presidents.
University of Ulster Mace and Staves (1991/96)
I was commissioned to design and create a ceremonial mace and two staves for the University of Ulster, in 1991 and 1996 respectively.
The mace and staves feature enamelling by my wife Deirdre McCrory. The mace features engraving by Bill Kirk and the staves feature engraving by John Harrison.
Restoration of Church Mace (2002)
In 2002 I was commissioned by Hillsborough Parish Church to restore an Eighteenth century mace.
The mace was in extremely poor condition with several cracks in the silver which rendered it unusable. To restore the piece I had to completely dismantle it and repair and strengthen it before re-assembling it.
